There are some common early symptoms of pregnancy; it includes a missed period, feeling exhausted, urinating more than usual, sensitive or swollen breasts, vomiting etc. if any of these symptoms are experienced, it is advised to take a pregnancy test. This test may be done at home or in the clinic under the doctor’s supervision. To get accurate pregnancy result one can wait till the very next day she misses her period but for best result, you have to wait for one week after you miss the period. There are two types of pregnancy tests first are urine test and second are the blood test. Some tools for pregnancy tests are available. During early pregnancy, one hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is generated by placenta when the embryo is attached to the uterine lining. In the pregnancy test, we detect the presence of this HCG hormone. Now different tools for pregnancy test are available now.

Urine tests can be performed either at home or in the doctor’s clinic. A home pregnancy test (HPT) can be performed as early as on the first day you miss the period. Urine is either collected in a container and one stick containing chemicals is dipped in it or that stick is placed in the urine stream and catching the urine midstream. In both the cases, the chemicals in the stick react with HCG present in the urine and change the colour. The time taken to change the colour of the stick differs for different companies. Most take about 10 minutes to show the accurate results. Sometimes this test can give a negative result as well, as in some cases in the first couple of days after missing period the amount of HCG present in urine is very low. You need to repeat this test after one week to confirm the result. HPT is about 97% accurate and its very low cost, private, gives the result fast and easy to use. A clinical urine test is performed in the doctor’s clinic. It is more accurate than HPT. It is more costly than the HPT and takes about a week to get the report.

There are two types of blood tests for pregnancy determination. 1. Qualitative HCG blood test determines whether you are pregnant or not. 2. Quantitative HCG determines the level of HCG present in the blood. This test is very important as it can help to detect any problem in the pregnancy period .these blood tests are very accurate than the urine test, can help to detect other pregnancy problems. These are very expensive tests than the urine test and take a longer period to get the report.

Pregnancy month calculator is very important for every pregnant lady and sometimes it is confusing to calculate it properly. It takes 40 weeks or 280 days from the first day of last menstrual period. You are four weeks pregnant if you miss your first period. If we take menstrual cycle for 28 days or 4 weeks then the first two weeks is called menstrual period and the last two weeks is called ovulation period. If the baby is delivered in the estimated date then the baby is 38 weeks old not 40 weeks.
